布达拉宫 Bùdálāɡōnɡ noun Potala Palace 布达拉宫Historically, the chief residence of the Dalai Lama. The Potala is situated on top of the Red Mountain in Lhasa, Tibet. The first palace on this site was built in the 7th century for King Songsten Gampo (松赞干布). It was expanded in the 17th century by the 5th Dalai Lama. The Potala contains more than a thousand rooms and many thousands of shrines and statues. In the east part of the Potala is the White Palace, housing the living quarters. The central part of the Potala is the Red Palace, used for prayer and religious study. |
